Vitalik Buterin Criticizes Elon Musk’s Scalability Plan For Dogecoin

Elon Musk’s plan to scale Dogecoin superiority brought up a discussion about general blockchain scaling with Vitalik Buterin.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin wrote an in-depth blog post on blockchain scalability – he claimed that Elon Musk’s plans to scale Dogecoin were unsustainable.

The article is about the blockchain trilemma: a trade-off between decentralization, scalability, and security. He responded to Elon Musk’s tweet, claiming that Dogecoin will be the dominant chain if it was to increase its block size by more than 900%:

He tweeted out:

Ideally, Doge speeds up block time 10X, increases block size 10X & drops fee 100X. Then it wins hands down.

Vitalik responded confidently:

For a blockchain to be decentralized, it’s crucially important for regular users to be able to run a node, and to have a culture where running nodes is a common activity.

He points out that increasing the block sitze leads to less decentralization. Fewer nodes will be able to join the network as the blockchain will be more and more difficult to download.

Cointelegraph tweeted Vitalik’s response, which leads to Elon Musk noticing it. His response was rather simple:
